Recently, the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) officially issued an announcement, announcing that from January 1, 2026, the technical test report that meets the relevant standards of Type-C charging port and power transmission will become a mandatory document for products under the following control to apply for Saudi market certification. The purpose of this new regulation adjustment is to further standardize the market and ensure that the electronic equipment sold in Saudi Arabia meets the unified standards in the safety, performance and interoperability of charging interfaces.

New regulations control product range

Phase I: It came into effect on January 1, 2026, covering the following products:

◆ mobile phones

◆ tablets

◆ digital cameras

◆ e-readers

◆ portable video game consoles

◆ headphones & earphones

◆ speakers and portable speakers

◆ keyboards

◆ computer cursors (mouse)

◆ portable navigation systems

◆ wireless routers

Phase II: It will be implemented on April 1st, 2026:

At that time, the scope of supervision will be extended to more product categories such as portable computers, and it is recommended that relevant enterprises pay attention to the follow-up details update in real time.

Key points of standard update

According to the requirements of the new regulations, all products under control must be tested in strict accordance with the following two standards and submit a formal test report:

◆ SASO IEC 62680-1-2:2023

◆ SASO IEC 62680-1-3:2023

Note: The test report should prove that the product meets the requirements of Type-C charging port and power transmission. If the enterprise fails to test according to the specified standards or provides unqualified product reports, it will not pass the Saudi market certification.

Product certification requirements

1. Necessary certification certificate

Products must pass the conformity assessment institution recognized by SASO and obtain the following two kinds of certificates:

◆ Certificate of Product Conformity (P-CoC)

◆ Certificate of Shipping Conformity (S-CoC)

Note: These two types of certificates are "hard documents" for customs clearance in Saudi Arabia. Goods without certificates or with certificates that are not in compliance will be refused entry.

2, product label specification

The product label must clearly contain the following two core information:

◆ Instructions for use of charging equipment

◆ Supported minimum and maximum power parameters

Note: Products with incomplete and inaccurate label information will be regarded as non-compliant.

3. Compliance spot check

SASO will randomly check the products on sale and customs clearance through SABER electronic platform to verify the consistency between the actual situation of the products and the test report and label information. Unqualified products will be removed from the shelves, recalled or even punished.

Corporate response suggestions

◆ Manufacturer: It is necessary to immediately sort out the list of products exported to Saudi Arabia to confirm whether it belongs to the scope of controlled products; Dock with the testing organization approved by SASO in advance, and carry out the test according to the standards of SASO IEC 62680-1-2:2023 and SASO IEC 62680-1-3:2023, so as to avoid delaying the certification progress due to the test cycle.

◆ Exporter: Check the compliance status of supply chain products, and ask upstream manufacturers to provide complete test reports and P-CoC and S-CoC certificates to ensure complete customs clearance information; Check the product label information synchronously and fill in the necessary contents such as power and charging instructions; Dock with Saudi importers and customs in advance to confirm the details of compliance requirements in the customs clearance process, so as to avoid the detention of goods due to missing documents and inconsistent information.
