On June 15, 2022, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) published the standard IEC 62493:2015+AMD1:2022 (consolidated version), which is applicable to the assessment of human exposure to electromagnetic radiation from lighting equipment. The assessment includes the induced internal electric field at frequencies between 20kHz and 10MHz and the specific absorption rate (SAR) around the lighting device at frequencies between 100kHz and 300MHz. It is also a standard that must be assessed for compliance with IEC 60598-1:2020.
Compared with the old 2015 version, this A1 version of the standard includes the following major technical changes:
Update the used standard ICNIRP Guidelines for Limiting Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields (1998) to ICNIRP 2020 and introduce corresponding updated technical requirements.
Warm Tips
There is basically no impact on conventional LED lamps that fall into the exemption test and are deemed to meet the standard.
