On July 30, 2024, the EU launched a public consultation on the revised draft of POPs Regulation (EU)2019/1021, which proposed that UV-328 be listed in Annex I of POPs Regulation for control. The review period ended on August 27, 2024, during which stakeholders can submit feedback to the European Commission. About UV-328

UV-328 is a phenolic benzotriazole, which is often used as an ultraviolet absorber to protect the surface from discoloration and degradation under ultraviolet light. It is usually added to plastic packaging to prevent harmful ultraviolet radiation, and also added to products to reduce fading and inhibit corrosion. UV-328 has a wide range of uses, usually used as a light stabilizer for paints and various plastics, and also used in personal care products, plastic shrink films, outdoor furniture and transparent coated automobile finishes, building materials, fillers, surface treatment, adhesives, paints, printing inks, consumer spices, fabric/textile/leather products and inert pesticides, as well as various resins such as acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene. UV-328 was identified as substances of very high concern (SVHC) by ECHA in December 2014 because of its persistence, bioaccumulation and toxicity (PBT) and high persistence and high bioaccumulation (vPvB). If the draft is passed, UV-328 will be included in the list of prohibited substances for control.
