On April 22, 2024, the Ministry of Industry of Thailand issued a new standard on "Safety requirements for secondary batteries and battery packs containing alkaline or other non-acidic electrolytes-portable sealed secondary batteries and batteries made of them for portable applications-Part 2: lithium system", with the standard number TIS 62133 part2-2565.

This standard is aligned with IEC 62133-2 :2021 standard issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and is mainly aimed at portable sealed lithium batteries and batteries containing alkaline or other non-acidic electrolyte. It is expected that this new standard will be enforced in 2025, setting a new threshold for battery safety in the Thai market.

After the announcement of the new standard, according to the requirements of TISI factory audit, the factory registration cannot be inspected by a third-party auditor recognized by TISI, but must be inspected by an auditor sent by TISI, and the number must be more than one, and the factory inspection time is about 2 days, and the factory needs to conduct a field factory audit every three years. At present, the advantage of this factory inspection method is that the factory inspection report belongs to the factory itself and can be authorized to be used by any brand, and it will not happen that brand A does not authorize brand B to use the factory inspection report, which will lead to the need to re-inspect the factory. If the enterprise has many Thai importers, it is more cost-effective to register the factory.

Warm tips

The transition period from the old standard to the new standard is generally half a year, which will not exceed one year. ZRLK suggests that relevant enterprises pay close attention to the follow-up enforcement time and how to reflect the battery product information registered by the new standard on the certificate. ZRLK has been focusing on the testing and certification of consumer electronic and electrical products for 20 years, always paying attention to the changes of laws and regulations in various countries, and providing customers with one-stop testing and certification services with heart to ensure that enterprise products enter the target market quickly.
